Sara Ray "The Devil Lives in Long Beach" The First solo show of works by Long Beach resident Sara Ray Sara Ray began painting as a child encouraged by a family of artists and has taught herself the lost art of thinly layered oils on canvas.Born in Hermosa Beach to surfing royalty she grew up in Hawaii under the volcano singed sky before exploring the art collections of Europe. An avid hot rodder and war historian her painted subject matter is a cryptic dance where WWI Dogfights, vintage car crashes and B-movie sexplotation idols congregate seamlessly.A childhood where the family had Barris customs parked in the garage fueled a passion for Hot Rods and the kustomized side of So Cal living . Thus inspired, her canvases drip in automotive lore, a favorite subject of hers. Her new work is a stew of busty tattooed seductresses fighting greaser zombies in a haunted dream where rusty hot rods roar through the darkness piloted by the ghosts of previous owners. Professionally Sara has been wielding her talents for a variety of patrons, including Gretsch,Fender and Jackson guitars and most recently painting a series of custom motorcycles for Sucker Punch Sally's. The show at Two Bits Gallery opens Saturday March 1st with an artist reception starting at 7 and live music performed by the Dynotones-there will be a closing party Sunday march 30th. artist website www.sararay.com Two Bits Gallery is located at 915 East Wardlow Road Long Beach California 90807 (562) 427-7547
